True Corp Presents True Aluminum: Screen Rooms, Pool Cages, and More

Screen room, lanai, or sunroom: what each word means

Florida uses these terms loosely, and quotes get confusing when a homeowner and a contractor mean different things. Here is the working vocabulary of the trade.

• Screen room - a screened enclosure built onto the house, usually under its own aluminum roof
• Lanai - a covered patio under the home's existing roofline, often screened in after the fact
• Pool cage - a freestanding-style screen enclosure over a pool, engineered with its own posts and roof
• Sunroom - a true room with solid or glass walls and an insulated roof, usable in any weather

Why aluminum is Florida's outdoor building material

Wood rots, rusts were never an option, and steel needs constant coating in this climate. Extruded aluminum earns its place on Florida patios: it does not rust, termites ignore it, it carries impressive load for its weight, and a factory finish keeps it presentable for decades with nothing more than an occasional wash. That is why nearly every screen enclosure, carport, and patio roof you see across Central Florida is aluminum.
