A Two Story Pool Cage Goes Up in Wesley Chapel
This build video follows a two story pool cage rising over a Wesley Chapel backyard, set to music from the first post to the finished enclosure. The result is the reason people order these: the homeowners get the Florida sunshine without the bugs and debris.
Two story cages are a different animal from a standard enclosure - taller walls, longer spans, and a lot more wind to account for - which makes this project a good excuse to explain how enclosure engineering works.
Wind load: the math behind every Florida enclosure
A screen enclosure is mostly sail. Before one legally goes up in Florida, an engineer sizes the posts, beams, cable bracing, and anchors to the wind speed the Florida Building Code assigns to that specific address, then seals the drawings. Taller structures catch more wind, so a two story cage gets heavier wall sections, more bracing, and deeper anchorage than a one story cage of the same footprint. None of that is visible in the finished product, which is exactly why the paperwork matters.
Permits and inspections: what they buy you
- A permit means the county reviewed sealed engineering for your address, not a generic design
- Inspections verify the footers, fastening, and bracing match those drawings before and after they disappear from view
- Unpermitted enclosures surface at the worst times: insurance claims, code enforcement, and the title work when you sell
- A legitimate aluminum contractor pulls the permit as part of the job - treat any offer to skip the permit as a walk-away signal
