35 Fans, 5 Dehumidifiers, 3 Days: Anatomy of a Whole-House Dry-Out
The homeowners came home at 12:30 at night to water pouring out of the garage: a toilet supply line had let go and run through the whole house. True responded within the hour and started extraction that night. This video picks the job up on day three, with the house almost dry, roughly 35 air movers and four or five dehumidifiers still running, flooring removed, and the crew walking exactly where the water went, starting from ground zero in the garage.
As the crew explains, the equipment typically comes out on day three or four depending on severity, the property gets cleaned up to a workable condition, and then the repair process begins.
What all that equipment is actually doing
A dry-out is not fans blowing on puddles. Extraction removes standing water first, because a pump removes in minutes what evaporation takes days to move. Then air movers push moisture out of wet materials into the air, dehumidifiers pull it out of the air and drain it away, and daily moisture-meter readings confirm the structure is trending to dry standards. The count of machines is calculated from the wet square footage, which is why a whole-house loss like this one runs dozens of air movers.
- Do not turn the equipment off at night; drying is cumulative, and every off hour extends the job
- Expect noise and warmth for two to four days; that is the process working
- Ask to see the moisture readings; a professional crew logs them daily and will happily show you
The handoff from drying to rebuilding
Rebuild starts when the moisture logs say so, not when the calendar does. Closing walls over damp framing traps the problem behind new finishes, which is why the mitigation phase ends with documented dry-standard readings. That documentation also matters to your claim: it proves the loss was handled professionally and the rebuild scope sits on a sound foundation. If your contractor cannot show you drying logs, you do not actually know the house is dry.
